Signs are everywhere, and the technology behind them is changing. We're looking at the way certain types of digital signs could impact our city and we want to hear from you. Please take just a few minutes to read a bit about what's being reviewed and fill out our survey.
What's happening?
The City is currently reviewing a portion of its Signs By-law related to certain types of digital signage and third-party advertising.
What is digital signage?
For the purpose of the review and survey, digital signage refers to electronic sign formats displaying animations, videos or cycling digital imagery.
What is third-party advertising?
Third-party advertising refers to advertising a business or product not located on the same property as the advertisement. A billboard is the most obvious example but such advertising could include a sign for a restaurant located on the side of an office building or a business sign on a City facility.
Why the review?
Technology is changing rapidly, affecting almost all parts of life in our city, including advertising. Currently the City's by-laws prohibit signage with animations, video and cycling digital imagery for a variety of reasons. Such signs could add to our community, or detract from it, so tell us what you think.
