Consultation has concluded
The City of St. Catharines is requesting feedback from residents regarding the installation of a permanent concrete speed hump on Bessey Street. A temporary rubber speed hump was installed to allow residents an opportunity to experience the impacts of this type of traffic calming. Staff are now prepared to make the traffic calming permanent with the installation of a concrete speed hump.
Prior to approving a permanent speed hump, in accordance with the City’s Traffic Calming Policy, a supporting vote from more than50 per cent of the total households surveyed is required. For Bessey Street, this means that ten (10) or more households must vote in favour of the speed hump to be made permanent. If more than 50 per cent of the households either vote that they are not in favour or do not cast a vote, traffic calming will be discontinued.
The proposal is to install the permanent speed hump in approximately the same location as the temporary speed hump (see map below).
No modifications to the layout or changes to the number of speed humps are being considered.
Complete the survey below prior to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2023.
